| Mute eloquence continues to be the driving force
for my photography, a concept that I first applied to objects. Fallen
peonies after a storm, a leaf on the hand of a stone Buddha, a single
calla lily—quiet voices, beckoning. I found that when I listened, images
revealed themselves and offered a new way of seeing as well. |
| I began to wonder if mute eloquence might also
apply to people. I wanted to photograph not merely the surface beauty or
uniqueness of an individual, but to listen for what lies beneath, what
often goes unnoticed. The story. The feeling. What emerged was a portrait
series aptly entitled THE MUTE. There is in each of us passion, poetry,
magic and a longing to share—if only for a moment—what lies beneath. |
| I have been told kindly that I am a poet with a lens.
Indeed, then my intention is to honor the poem within those things or
people I’m photographing—to approach those moments shared with a sense of
honesty and integrity—simply and with gratitude. |
